The Pasta Hotline story.
It started with a love of pasta and the special feeling you get when you learn to make something new. When you create something from scratch, it’s rewarding. When you get to share that experience with other people, it’s memorable.
Making homemade pasta with fresh ingredients has its benefits too. It’s healthier for you than packet pasta. And you become more conscious of what you are eating. The process is a therapeutic and mindful way to restore your wellbeing. It’s also a fun way to connect with people in a social setting and share a great meal together afterwards. In my humble opinion, it’s a wholesome experience.
I had the opportunity to live with my Nonna for two years and we shared many meals together. During that time, I was able to observe how she made pasta and was able to learn the craft for myself. No recipe books, no measurements. Pure observation, trial and error. It was one of the best things I ever did.
Fast forward to 2020 and with lockdown in full swing, people were looking for things to do while stuck at home.
The idea was born out of a conversation with my housemate, Nick, who is a film maker. I wanted to impart my knowledge and teach people how to make pasta, like my Nonna taught me. And Nick wanted to film things with his new camera gear. After a couple of glasses of vino, we were discussing how we could make this happen. We decided to teach people live, so I could provide support along the way with any ‘pasta disasters’. We felt that it was important for someone to be there on the other end of the line while they were learning, like my Nonna was there for me. The following week, we did our first episode of Pasta Hotline.
Since then, a community of pasta lovers has emerged. I’m dedicated to growing Pasta Hotline and continuing to shape a community that I love.
